A Public Garden, Located in the Center of Petrozavodsk, will Bear the Name of Elias Lennrot
PETROZAVODSK, June 26 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Vladimir Zlobin/. A new public garden is named after Elias Lennrot /1802-1884/, world-known Finnish man of letters, creator of a famous Karelian-Finnish epos "Kalevala". Today the ceremony of opening the cozy green corner has been held. The unusually shaped fountain has been erected in honor of the 150th anniversary since publication of the unique work.
Andrey Demin, Mayor of the city, said at the opening, "It's hard to underestimate the significance of Elias Lennrot for the Republic of Karelia. Thanks to his "Kalevala", our republic and its capital Petrozavodsk is known all over the world.
The Delegation of Business Community of the Swedish Province Vesterbotten is Studying the Wood-Processing Enterprises of the Republic of Karelia
PETROZAVODSK, June 26 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Valery Potashov/. The Swedish businessmen view the Republic of Karelia as a promising region for investments and joint entrepreneurship development. These were the words of Anders Jonsson, Expert of the Swedish Trade Council, who leads the delegation of the business community of the Swedish Province of Vesterbotten, came to the republic with the objective to study conditions for future cooperation work.
As Anders Jonsson said, the visit had been envisioned by the Protocol of agreement between the Republic of Karelia and the Province of Vesterbotten for 2001-2003, signed last January.
