PETROZAVODSK, July 17. /Correspondent of ITAR-TASS Vladimir Zlobin/. The ambassador of Finland in the Russian Federation has named the great mistake of politicians the fact that the contract about protection of investments between the two countries has not been signed till now. It was told to the correspondent of ITAR-TASS in Petrozavodsk where his meeting with the Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov was held.
"We have discussed with the Head of the republic the state of affairs in our frontier cooperation, - the ambassador speaks. - We were also compelled to recognize that the economy of Karelia lacks for large investments from Finland. However, such position is typical both in the sphere of relations as a whole between our countries. There is the only reason: the investment climate in Russia does not suit the businessmen from Finland."
Rene Nuberg has noted that the government of Suomi has been negotiating with the colleagues from Russia for necessity of signing of the contract about protection of investments within the past three years. The last attempt was made on the eve of the meeting of presidents of Russia and Finland in Saint Petersburg held in May of this year.
"However, the result has not been achieved yet, for which we regret very much, - the ambassador has noticed. - Meanwhile, it is well-known that growth of the Russian economy is possible only on the basis of large investments from the outside."
