Visit of Valentina Matvienko, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation to Northwest federal district (April 25, 2003)
On April 25 during her visit to Karelia Valentina Matvienko, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in Northwest Federal district, has visited a number of objects under construction and reconstructed included in the complex program of preparation and celebrating of the 300th anniversary of Petrozavodsk.
Together with the Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov Valentina Matvienko has visited construction of the 2-nd turn of the Onego lake quay, the Museum of Fine Arts opened after restoration, the Kizhi Museum visiting center, the National Theatre, and also the Republican hospital Diagnostic center.
Despite of cold weather, Valentina Matvienko has walked on the new 600-meter site of the Onego lake quay constructed by the Joint-Stock Company "Building Enterprise-1". As builders have reported, finishing of the quay will be completed by the fixed date by the Day of the city.
The Museum of Fine Arts opened half-a-year ago when its restoration was completed made a great impression on the Plenipotentiary. "It is a small St.Petersburg," - Valentina Matvienko has told standing at the main facade of the building constructed on canons of classical architecture. During seeing the exposition of the Museum the distinguished guest got especially interested in the unique collection of icons, and also halls with collections of paintings of modern Karelian artists.
During her visit to ke quay, the Museum of Fine Arts opened after restoration at Valentina Matvienko's approval the decision on the beginning of restoration of Preobrazhensky Church located on the island was accepted. With this purpose the Government of Karelia will enter into the agreement with the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation where the basic sources of financing of works will be stipulated, and from 2004 due to means of the federal budget construction of the industrial complex necessary for restoration of monuments of wooden architecture will begin on Kizhi island.
The new Plenipotentiary of the President has closely examined the National Theatre, the most expensive project included in the program on preparation for celebrating of the anniversary of the city. At present the works on completing finishing of the premises, purchase and installation of the process equipment in the auditorium and on the stage are next in turn.
The last point in the program was the Republican hospital Diagnostic centre where Valentina Matvienko has visited wards and the operating-room, and also new ophthalmologic branch, has communicated to attending physicians, the medical personnel and patients.
On Valentina Matvienko's words, she was pleased with the rate of building and restoration works developed in Petrozavodsk.
The theme of the city anniversary was continued at the session of the Organizing Committee on preparation for celebrating the 300th anniversary of the capital of Karelia.
