PETROZAVODSK. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Dmitry Gordienko/. Fifty two yachts from many regions of Russia and also from Finland have taken part in start of the next 32-nd regatta Onego-2003 on Tuesday in Petrozavodsk.
"It Is the unique regatta possessing the status of the championship of Russia, - the chairman of the racing committee, the main judge of a regatta Yury Chikalov has told today the correspondent of SPB-TASS, - Competition for championship will be held in four classes of yachts, however champion ranks are played only among citizens of Russia."
Representatives of the Government of Karelia and mayoralty of Petrozavodsk have taken part in the solemn ceremony of opening of the regatta, as wll as the founder of the Russian fleet emperor Peter the Great who wished good luck to yachtsmen and whose role was splendidly performed by journalist Sergey Lapshov well-known in Karelia. After the ceremony of rise of the flag and the guns' salvo the regatta competitions have begun.
Competitions will last for ten days. During this period of this time its participants will overcome the distance of 400 sea miles. Unfortunately, competitions of Micro-yachts (such yachts as Assol) was not held: by the day of start sufficient quantity of yachts of this class has not gathered in Petrozavodsk.
