The international festival of stone sculptures in Petrozavodsk is over

PETROZAVODSK, June 26. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Yuri Shleikin/. For its 301st anniversary Petrozavodsk has received five new granite sculptures. As the assistant to the Head of administration of the city Tatyana Anohova has told the SPB-TASS correspondent, "The international symposium of stone sculptures was organized for the first time in the capital of Karelia. Within one month sculptors from Armenia, Slovakia, Saint Petersburg and Petrozavodsk were creating their products to decorate the quay of Onego lake in our city."

The sculptor from the Armenian city of Echmiadzin has represented an angel with open wings in a poetic way. The most skilled participant of the festival is Stanislav Zadorozhny from Saint Petersburg who has named the sculpture Hyperbole. It represents a fisherman sitting on a huge ice-floe, showing what a huge fish he had caught, while only a small young fish lies before him. Alexander Kim from Petrozavodsk has named his composition A Kiss, and his fellow countryman Sergey Cherepanov has made a philosophical composition An Angel with a Ladder.

The only woman among participants of the symposium was Zora Lednarova from Slovakia who has made a composition of two huge boulders connected by a metal ring representing sun. "In this composition, - she has told, - I have tried to reflect my wonderful impressions from Petrozavodsk which is famous for its factories of the time of Peter the Great and a unique quay with sculptures from sister-cities."

A bit later new sculptures will be placed in the streets of the city.
