Head of Karelia talking to Nils Skarbæk
On November 12 Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov held negotiations with the vice-president of Swedwood International AB Mr. Nils Skarbæk. Assistant to the Prime Minister of the Government, Minister of Construction of the RK Valery Momotov, Minister of Economic Development of the RK Mikhail Yurinov and Minister of of Forestry of the RK Vladimir Yuriev participated in the meeting.
Swedwood company located in Kostomuksha was founded in 2003 upon concluding the relevant agreement with the Government of Karelia. The enterprise is a part of the group of companies comprising IKEA industrial concern. Swedwood today is one of the largest enterprises on complex wood-processing in Karelia. Using modern technologies the conpany itself does the wood harvesting, produces wood boards and furniture boards. Now Swedwood is building a large furniture factory in Kostomuksha near the already constructed factories. Thus, at the Swedish enterprise they intend to implement the complete technological chain: ready furniture will be delivered abroad instead of round timber.
During the meeting issues regarding maintenance of Swedwood's production facilities with raw material, forthcoming introduction of 'protecting' round timber export duties and the course of realization of investment projects were considered.
Sergey Katanandov has noted, that the republic is interested in development of such enterprises. The project will become especially actual after introduction of 'protecting' round timber export duties. Head of Karelia has expressed his interest in the Mr. Nils Skarbæk's offer on assigning the status of the priority investment project in the wood-working industry to construction of furniture factory in Kostomuksha.
