International Norms and Legislation of The Russian Federation in the Field of Preservation of Language and Culture, Traditional Way of Life, Nature Management of Indigenous Peoples: Norm. Theory. Practice. seminar was held in Petrozavodsk on November 25-27. 12 subjects of the Russian Federation have taken part in the seminar.
Three breakup group sessions where legal norms in the field of traditional nature management and organization of traditional economic activities, as well as legislation providing preservation of language and culture, traditional way of life of indigenous peoples were considered have been held within the framework of the seminar. The Indigenous Peoples abd International Cooperation round table discussion was held there, too.
Director of the Department of Interethnic Relations of the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhuravsky delivered a speech at the final plenary session of the seminar. He has told about activity of federal bodies of the government in the sphere of protection of rights, preservation of culture and language of indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation.
Resolution with recommendations to international organizations, the Government of Russia, bodies of the government of subjects of the Russian Federation and institutions of local government, public organizations and movements of indigenous peoples and national minorities in the country became the final document of the seminar.
At the press conference held on results of the seminar representative of the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhuravsky said that Karelia is historically heterogeneous, many migrants come to the republic, therefore the task of authorities, institutes of civil society and mass media is to make their best for development of interethnic and interconfessional dialogue in the republic.
