Summing up the results of the Cross-Border Move for Health project in 2013

Results of implementation of the Cross-Border Move for Health project in 2013 and prospects of its implementation in 2014 were discussed in Joensuu on January 23-24.

The project was launched within the Karelia European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument cross-border cooperation program (ENPI CBC Karelia). The project is aimed at developing international cooperation and interaction between Finnish and Russian experts, introducing new practices in physical activity and exercise of adapted physical activity groups, producing education material, etc.

Interim evaluation of the project implementation was presented by M.Sc. Miia Pasanen, Karelia University of Applied Sciences, who has take a favourable view of efficiency of the project events and the developing cooperation as a whole.

Research of physical training and sports practices in Karelia and Finland took place last year within the scope of the project that had made it possible to specify the most essential fields of work.

The international seminar on adapted physical education took place in June, 2013 in Joensuu. The day of conversance with sports for persons with disabilities was organized for the seminar participants within which scope modern forms of popular kinds of sport for physically and intellectually disabled people were presented. Within the framework of the workshop Barrier-Free Environment a fact-finding tour by means of wheel-chairs and simulators took place, the basic requirements for creation of barrier-free environment people with disabilities were discussed. Coaches of Special Olympics – Russia public organization, the management of remedial schools and rehabilitation institutions of Karelia, Petrozavodsk Pedagogical College, Karelian State Pedagogical Academy, employees of the Ministry of the RK of Youth Affairs, Physical Training, Sports and Tourism spoke for Karelia at the seminar.

The international seminar devoted to the issues of physical training and sports organization in Russia and in Finland took place on October 24-25 the town of Sortavala. Issues of the physical training and sports organization, development of volunteerism, sports clubs were considered during the seminar. The seminar participants have paid special attention to organization of cross-border physical activity for senior citizens.

A study tour of representatives of Petrozavodsk Pedagogical College, Institute of Physical Training, Sports, and Tourism of PetrSU and the Association of Teachers of Physical Training in the RK to educational institutions of Finland training experts in the sphere of physical training and sports took place in November. The experts visited the Department of Sport Science of the University of Jyväskylä, the Research Center of Sport of Records, Juniors' Games organized by the Union of Sports and and Physical Training for Persons with Physical Disabilities in which more that 300 children have taken part.

A number of international sports competitions will take place within the scope of the project in 2014. It is planned that in May a delegation of representatives of sports federations of Karelia will visit Finland for development of international cooperation in the sphere of sports. Children with disabilities will be able to take part in the Summer Adapted Physical Activity Camp for Children in Joensuu. The project will be also presented within the scope of the International Congress of Physical and Health Education Teachers to take place in June of 2014 in Petrozavodsk.

On January 24 information and tutorial materials for experts to be released in 2014 were discussed within the scope of the seminar. These books will consider issued of healthy living, organization of physical training and sports, as well as adapted physical activity and sports. The tutorials will be developed by experts from Finland and Karelia.
