The Head of Karelia discussed the issues of interaction between the State and religious organizations in the Republic with the Bishop of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria.
On April 22nd, Arri Kugappi, the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria visited Karelia. In the Government of Karelia he met with Alexander
Khudilainen, the Head of the Republic.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia - one of the two oldest historic Lutheran churches, widespread in our country. The Church maintains
fraternal relations with the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. Arri Kugappi, the Bishop of the Church in Russia is native Karelian
born in the village of Padozero.
The Evangelical-Lutheran Parish of the Holy Spirit in Petrozavodsk was established in 1969. At the present time, 15 Lutheran parishes of Karelia are
actively engaged in the organization of camps for young and elderly parishioners, and in the educational and charitable activities. Services are held in
the Finnish and Russian languages.
