Agreement on Cooperation Signed in Tromse (Norway)
The Agreement on cooperation between the Republic of Karelia and the province of Tromse has been signed today at the deck of the liner "Kong Harald" near the town of Tromse in Norway.
The Agreement envisions cooperation work in the area of economics, research, education, environment, public health care, culture, sport, tourism, librarianship, exchange programs for teachers and students within the frameworks of the Barents region program "Barents-plus-junior". The Agreement will last for ten years.
During the three-day visit the official delegation of the Republic of Karelia held negotiations with Tromse university and regional hospital authorities, visited the National telemedicine center and a number of enterprises in the towns of Finsnes, Serreis and Shevegan. In the course of the visit the negotiations on cooperation in the area of fish-breeding and Karelian sawlog supply to Norway were conducted. The Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov, the Chairmen of the Houses of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia Vladimir Shilnikov and Nickolai Levin and the Minister of foreign relations of the Republic of Karelia Valery Shlyamin were part of the delegation.
