A Visit of Karelian Delegation to Sweden
The official delegation of the Republic of Karelia has arrived in Stokholm. The delegation includes the Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov, the Chairman of the House of the Republic of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia Vladimir Shilnikov, the minister of Foreign Relations Valery Shlyamin.
The itinerary is rather tough - the delegation is planning to meet with the Ambassador of the Russian federation in Sweden A. Nikifirov, the State Secretary of MFA of Sweden E. Seder, the leadership of the Province Vesterbotten.
Then the delegation is going to visit the University of Agriculture in Umeo, and January 24 the Protocol of cooperation between the Republic of Karelia and the Province of Vesterbotten is due to be signed.
The signing of the Protocol is viewed as the development of Karelian-Swedish relations started in 1994. April 19, 1994 the Protocol of cooperation in the areas of agriculture and forest industry, education, culture, sport, information technologies, governmental relations, ecology, and exchange programs was signed.
The Protocol was expired in 2001 but the parties expressed the readiness to continue their joint work. That's why, the Karelian delegation went to Sweden on an answering visit.
