Northern-Western Mass Media Association Board Sitting is Over
Today is the second day of the work of the northern-western mass media Association board sitting held in the capital of the Republic of Karelia.
"The Association was established at the end of the last year," Ivan Bents, the co-chairman of the Association, the head editor of the newspaper "Pravda Severa" said. The goal of its activities is to protect the corporative interests and create united information area for the region. At present it involves about 50 leading information structures.
Yesterday the participants of the sitting went to Kondopoga, got familiar with OAO "Kondopoga" pulp and paper mill, met with Vitaly Federmesser, mill director and Alexander Turkrnichev, head of the local power body. Then they flew to Kizhi island, where they got acquainted with museum-preserve.
Today the journalists have met with Sergey Katanandov, Head of the Government RK, State Council presidium member and Valentin Shmikov, Head federal inspector of the apparatus of Plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russian Federation in the North-Western federal district.
In the course of the meeting they discussed not only economy development issues, strengthening national relations, but also the issue of the freedom of speech, interaction of the press and power bodies. Sergey Katanandov spoke out the idea that " abundance of publications doesn't mean that authentic information is received by a lot of citizens."
Sergey Katanandov promised that he would talk with Victor Cherkesov, Plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russian Federation in Northern-Western federal district, who is going to come to the Republic of Karelia April 23-24, on the issues of news paper prices and supply.
The journalists are satisfied with fruitful work. Natalya Cherkesova marked, that she liked Petrozavodsk and hospitality of its citizens a lot.
