A New Railroad in the Republic of Karelia

PETROZAVODSK, June 1 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Vladimir Zlobin/. The main issue of the sitting of Karelian government was the accomplishment of Ledmosero-Kochkoma railroad construction. Nickolai Aksenenko, Minister of railroad communication RF, and Sergey Katanandov, Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia has taken part in it..

They has made an inspection of the site from a helicopter, visited the sites, met with workers.

"We have come to the conclusion that the railroad must be electrified, and not only this part of the railroad but electrification should go farther, via Kostomuksha up to the Finnish frontier," Nickolai Aksenenko said. "First thing in the morning, we are going to discuss the issue with our Finnish colleagues to coordinate our activities."

The participants of the sitting consider the electrification of the railroad not only economically, but also ecologically beneficial for the adjoining territories. The air pollution will be 20 times less.

Agreement on Mutual Repayment between MRC RF and the Government of the Republic of Karelia

PETROZAVODSK, June 1 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Vladimir Zlobin /. Three-lateral agreement among the Minister of railroad communication RF, the October railroad, and the Government of the Republic of Karelia envisions the order and dates of repayment of October railroad to the Karelian budget, local budgets and extra-budget funds. It has been signed by Nickolai Aksenenko, Minister of railroad communication RF, Sergey Katanandov, Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia, and Gennady Komarov, Chief of the road.

According to the document, the Republic of Karelia will get 71 mln rbl repayment of taxation in the nearest future.

In its turn, the Government of the republic has taken the responsibility of compensation to the railroad staff the losses of passenger routs. To reach this goal, the amendments will be forwarded in the law "The budget for 2001". They envision 35 mln rbl subsidies to the railroad to settle the losses of maintaining low-effective railroads routes. Last updated: 5 June 2001
