Modernization of Russian Educational System Should Go Gradually - Without Drastic Changes

of the State Council on educational reform. They have presented their variant of the program today in Moscow.
The content of the courses, taught in Russian educational institutions, was revised 40 years ago.
The members of the working group of the State Council on educational reform recognised this unpleasant fact at the press-conference, held on Friday. They have developed the program of modernizaton of the educational sysytem in Russia on the eve of the academic year.
Sergey Katanandov, Head of the Republic of Karelia, chairs the working group of the State Council on educational reform. He said that funding of education plays almost the main role in accomplishment the
educational reform. The group suggest that all the expences should be taken ober by the subject of Federation and even municipial power bodies, then the state will be able to fund the ducation process and provide teachers with decent salaries.
Lyubov Kezina, Minister of education of Moscow, pointed out that the system would not undergo radical changes. But serious corrections would be introduced into every aspect of the system.
Modernization of education system is scheduled to be performed in three stages, starting since 2002.
The working group expects that the program will be approved of the State Council, and then Vladimir Putin will commission the Government to put the program into practice.
