The XIII exhibition of the project "Golden map of Russia" represents the Museum of fine arts of the Republic of Karelia (Petrozavodsk) to the Moscow spectators. Formed in 1960, the museum totals today more than 10 000 exhibits.

The exposition brought in Moscow is the original publication devoted to the basic trends of collecting and research activity of the museum. The experts and spectators will face more than 170 works, among which there are a lot of unknown before, and also some really unique products.

The exhibition consists of three sections. 67 products of the Old Russian art represent a part of the most valuable collection of the museum fund assembled on the territory of Karelia within the past hundred years, and give submission about development of tradition of icon-painting in the North. On the exhibition the magnificent icons of the Novgorod school of the XVth century, expressive samples "of the northern letters" of the XVIth century are demonstrated. Many products of the Old Russian painting of the XV-XVIIIth centuries ("Mother of God with the baby" of the XVth century, "The Protection" of the second half of the XVIth century, subscription icon of Ignaty Panteleev "The Fiery Ascention of Elijah the Prophet with the life" dated 1647, etc.) will become the real discovery for the experts and fans of art.

The section of national art acquaints with one of the most original collections generated, basically, as a result of expeditionary activity of the museum. On the exhibition about 50 products created by the Russian, Karelian and Vepsian craftsmen: embroidery, weaving, national costume, carving and wood paintings relating to the Ith - the beginning of the XXth century are presented. The significant place is occupied by the unique samples from the collection of the ornamented fabrics (celebratory female shirts and sarafans (Russian peasant womens dress, without sleeves and buttoning in front, tunic dress), headgears, towels, etc.), and also spinning-wheels diverse in the form and decoration.

The special part of the exposition is devoted to the monument of world culture - Karelian-Finnish epos "Kalevala". The museum in Petrozavodsk has the most interesting assembly of the easel and book paintings related to the illustrating of this product. 10 authors have presented about 60 works in the exposition. Accomplished in 1930-1980th by the craftsmen of several generations, they demonstrate a variety of manners, styles, interpretations of the famous epos. Among exhibits tere are the figures of Mihail Tsybasov (1904-1967) and Alisa Poret (1902-1984), followers of Pavel Filonov, the illustrations of the Karelian artist Osmo Borodkin (1913-1949); works of the national artists of Russia Valentin Kurdov (1905-1989) and Mud Mechev (born 1929), the national artist of Karelia Ceorgy Stronk (born 1910), modern Petersburg craftsman Yuri Lukshin (born 1949),

The art heritage of Karelia presented on the exhibition assembly of works from the funds of the Museum of fine arts of the Republic of Karelia, is an integral part of the Russian culture and will take the worthy place on the "Golden map of Russia".
