Heading for Suisar

On July 21 the Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has started the traditional International sailing regatta of cruiser yachts Onego-2004, the open Championship of Russia. Ceremony of solemn opening was held on the Quay of Onego lake at the monument to Peter I at participation of the main federal inspector on the RK Valentin Shmykov, the chairman State Committee of the RK on Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism Eugeny Kotkin and the mayor of Petrozavodsk Victor Masliakov. At six o'clock in the evening 52 yachts, including 8 from Petrozavodsk, started the first 110-mile race towards the island of Suisar. As against the regatta of 2003 the thirty third regatta has started at good wind and bright weather.

Under recent information from the judges' vessel arrival of the first yachts in Suisar is expected this evening, that is the finish will be at night. In the beginning of the race the yacht Azart passing the first mark has lost its mast and has left the distance. After repair it should join the rest yachts. The first race will finish by the morning of July 23, and at 11.00 on July 24 yachts start the second race and will return to Petrozavodsk on July, 25. In the evening at 18.00 citizens and quests of Petrozavodsk will be able to see the racefor show devoted to the Navy Day.
