Head of Karelia participated in the Finnish-Russian-Chinese Economic Forum

On October 30-31 Helsinki, the capital of Finland, hosted the tripartite Finnish-Russian-Chinese Economic Forum. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Labour and Economic Development of Finland, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, together with the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia and Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

The main objective of the Forum was development of the dialogue between the Russian, Finnish and Chinese companies, more intensive trade and economic cooperation between the three countries in transport, power engineering and environment protection technologies, as well as in timber industry.

Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov participated in the Finnish-Russian-Chinese Economic Forum as a member of the Russian delegation.

Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov participated in the Finnish-Russian-Chinese Economic Forum as a member of the Russian delegation.

According to Sergey Katanandov, on the first place in the tripartite dialogue between delegations of Russia, Finland and China there was the issue of transport industry development and transportation of cargoes over the territory of Russia from Europe to Asia and back. As it was mentioned at the Forum, China is interested in development of relations with Russia, plans making investments and creation of joint ventures. First of all, the Chinese partners are interested in development of the East-West transport corridor. These prospects contribute to development of Octyabrskaya railway and Murmansk deep-water port.

Creation of transport corridors also causes interest in Karelia, as one of trading ways goes through the republic by Ledmozero-Kochkoma piece of line. Matters at the forum concerned continuation of significant investments into transport system of Karelia.

Development of joint ventures and relations in the sphere of timber industry between Karelia and Finland was also discussed at the Form. Within the scope of the working trip Head of Karelia has carried on bilaterial negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland Mr.Paavo Väyrynen.
