On October 28 in the Ministry of Labour and Employment of the RK there passed a meeting with directors of employment centers of the republic in which the delegation of North Carelia has also taken part. Participants of the meeting have summed up students' seasonal farm work in summertime in Finland, and have also discussed prospects of cooperation in this sphere in 2009.
Purpose of this cooperation is to assist secondary employment of students when they do not have classes. During the meeting it was decided to continue teamwork in the next year. It is planned to create an Internet databank of farms.
Since 1997 Ministry of Labour and Employment of the RK, employment centers of eight regions of the republic, cooperate a lot with their Finnish colleagues to assistance students in temporaty summertime employment in agricultural farms in Finland (basically, it is harvesting of strawberries and raspberries). In total, during this period of time more than seven thousand people travelled to Finland for seasonal farm work. In 2008 1200 people worked at 73 farms.
In July of 2008 representatives of the employment service of the Republic of Karelia made a control trip to Finland to get acquainted and study working and living conditions of Karelian berry pickers directed to work by employment centers.
