Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has signed the order of the Government of the republic on establishing the list of plots of high-value agricultural land that should not be used in other purposes. Ordinance of the government of Karelia has approved the order of formation of this list.
Both documents are based on the law of the republic On High-Value Productive Agricultural Land passed by the Legislative Assembly of Karelia in March. The law forbids to use plots of land included in the list for any purposes other than farming.
The law is focused on prevention of reduction of areas of productive agricultural land in Karelia, their protection from degradation and maintenance of their rational use.
The list includes experimental plots of academic and educational institutions which cadastral cost exceeds average cost of agricultural land in this or that municipal area by more than 10%, as well as reclaimed and artificially irrigated areas.
The list of plots of high-value productive agricultural land is formed by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the republic. To introduce changes in the list, land owners may petition the Ministry.
