Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has signed the Decree of the Governmental of Karelia On the Murom Government Complex (Landscape) Reserve of Regional Significance. The essence of the Decree is that the Murom nature reserve of local significance is granted the status of the nature reserve of regional significance.
Murom nature reserve is located in Pudozh region, its general territory makes more than 32 thousand hectares. In territory of the nature reserve there are woods playing a major role in preservation of ecological balance of the adjoining territory, unique water objects, as well as numerous listed monuments of history and culture, including petroglyphs on the shore of Lake Onego.
Increase of status of the nature reserve to the regional will promote more effective preservation of natural and cultural riches. Any economic activities, trade hunting and fishery, and even gathering of many kinds of mushrooms and plants are forbidden in this territory. Strict liability is stipulated for organizations and citizens for disturbance of the nature reserve.
