On Februrary, 8 Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Pavel Chernov met with the the Chief of the North-West Territorial Administration Territorial Administration of the Federal Fishery Agency Sergey Muraviev.

One of priorities in work of his department Sergey Muraviev has called implementation of the food security doctrine signed by the President of Russia on February, 1. The document clearly states that relative density of domestic fish production in the home market should make not less than 80%. According to Sergey Muraviev, situation in Russia today is quite the opposite, as import this sphere makes 75%.

Karelia possesses a great potential for development of fish industry. "We're planning to make Karelia an aquaculture pearl of the country," – the representative of the Federal Fishery Agency has told.

Pavel Chernov has also expressed hope for joint cooperation. According to the Prime Minister, in recent years in Karelia much has been done in the field of trout breeding, – as a matter of fact, during several years in the republic there has appeared a new branch of trout breeding and processing.

At the meeting in the government og the RK it has been decided to hold a meeting with representatives of the Federal Fishery Agency and heads of fish industry enterprises of Karelia in April in Petrozavodsk, and to develop a draft of the republican program of fish industry development through to 2020 by September.

Together with Sergey Muraviev to Karelia there came Dmitry Ivanov, Director of the State Research Institute of Lake and River Fisheries (GosNIORKh). At the meeting there has been considered a possiblity of establishing a branch of this field-specific fishery institute in Karelia.
