Karelian sportsman became the World Champion

On February, 10 in Transylvania (Romania) there have started the largest ski orienteering competitions of this year. In a small mountain resort of Miercurea Ciuc there gathered 330 racers from 23 countries of the world to compete for medals of the European Championship among adult sportsmen, and the World Championship among juniors (under 20 years of age).

On the first day there has been held a middle distance race. Our sportsman, master of sports in ski orienteering Mikhail Utkin has won gold.

The Russian team includes four representatives from Karelia. All of them are very skilled fighters. Despite of their young age, all of four our sportsmen many timesrepresented Russia at the largest world and European competitions. Except for Mikhail Utkin, in competitions participate very experienced sportswomen Tamara Yezhkova and Yekaterina Zakharova. One year ago they have already taken part in the World Championship for juniors held in Sweden. Olga Trifanova will take part in the European Championship. She is now on the 7 place in the overall ranking of the World Cup.

Next the sportsmen will compete in the long distance mass start race on February 11, in sprint on February 13, and in the three-stage relay race on February 14. Several European channels are broadcasting the competitions.
