Having come to the land of Karelia, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said that Karelia is of special importance in spiritual history of our country: "Before the revolution there were 565 parishes, 20 monasteries, more than 1300 priests, while in Soviet time there remained only 4 parishes. Now it is time for revival, and we can feel this revival. I hope to God that guided by strong spiritual tradition the people of Karelia overcomes the difficulties it is facing. This land is splendid, the land of forests and lakes, the land of amazing northern beauty. May the God's blessing be with Karelia and with all its people."
