As a republic possessing high level of informatization became the first region of the Northwest where the branch of Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library opens. Ceremonial signing of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of Karelia and Yeltsin Presidential Library was held on June, 7 in the Noble Assembly Hall of Karelian State Museum of Local History. The document was signed by Sergey Katanandov, Head of the Republic, and Alexander Vershinin, Director Geneal of the Presidential Library. Cooperation between the parties will enable Karelia to make another step towards integration in the sphere of the country's common information space.

– Today we sign the important Agreement which allows to participate in one of the most interesting federal projects. It is a great honor and success for Karelia, – Sergey Katanandov said. – I am sure that supporting such initiatives Karelia will do its best to develop cooperation with the library. All this is for the benefit of people who will receive ample opportunities to free use the tremendous information scope.

Presidential Library is found as the electronic library. Its funds are filled with the electronic copies of rare historical documents and books and also little known archival materials, that were not meant for wide readership before. Library’s branches that are being set up in the regions of Russia will also provide access to the scientific information, and unite researchers, who study History and Culture of Russia.

Director Geneal of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library Alexander Vershinin has thanked the leaders of the republic for great work accomplished to set up the Presidential Library in the region and has wished to move further in the same dynamic way.

We know that the branch of Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library it will be located in the extension to the National Library of Karelia. Reconstruction of the building goes at full speed now and when it is over the library will be the most advanced information, cultural and educational center.

After the ceremony of signing the Agreement in the Noble Assembly Hall there took place another event no less significant and pleasant. Sergey Katanandov has congratulated the famous poet Evgeny Evtushenko who has come to the republic to participate in the anniversary celebration, on conferring a title of the Honourable Citizen of the Republic of Karelia on him. Evgeny Evtushenko was conferred this title for his outstanding achievements and substantial contribution to development of our country's and world literature, as well as for the series of lyrics devoted to Karelia and active cultural and educational work during meetings with the population and carrying out of numerous poetic evenings in towns of the republic.

"It is a great honor for us to to be together with such a person for many years, to see your permanent active citizenship. Your works will teach many a generation truth, decency and true love for the Native land," – Sergey Katanandov addressed to the poet.

Evgeny Evtushenko, in turn, said that he has got used to feel at home in Karelia and that he loves talented Karelian people.

Sergey Katanandov congratulated three representatives of clerisy on awarding them premiums in the sphere of culture, art and literature. Deputy director of the Kizhi State Open-Air Museum of History, Architecture and Ethnography Lyudmila Shilova was awarded for implementation of the Children's Museum Center project. Premium in the sphere of fine art was awarded to the artist Valentin Chekmasov for creation of a series of landscapes on the Whire Sea region and implementation of the Let's Revive the Art of Itinerants project. Premium in the sphere of dramatic art was awarded to the duet of actors of the National Theatre of Karelia – Peter Mikshiev and Vieno Mikshieva (Kettunen) for their outstanding contribution to the theatrical art of the republic.
