The XXXIX Sailing Regatta Onego-2010 starts on July, 11, Sunday, in Karelia. Within the framework of the regatta the All-Russian Championship of 6.72 cruiser yachts (Quarter Tons) will be held.
Organizers expect about 30 yachts to participate in the regatta. More than 10 Quarter Ton yachts have already confirmed their participation. Quarter Ton is the type of cruising yachts. It began to develop in the Soviet Union from the middle of the 1970s. On the classification that existed then in our country they were the smallest marine yachts and have instantly gained recognition from the racers. They are well adapted both for shorts, and for long races in Russian environment, they possess sufficient safety factor. Except for Quarter Tons, there will also come yachts of the class OPEN 800, approximately 8-10 crews, Karelia will participate with Equator and Julia-4 yachts.
There will be yachts of some other classes, for example, of the small class Assol. Winners will be decided in every class, as all yachts have different speeds. It is of certain complexity for the judicial assembly, however organizers are ready for iy. Several judges will come from Moscow, there also will be judges from Petrozavodsk.
The regatta will be held in the water area of Onego Lake with start and finish in Petrozavodsk. Yachtsmen will participate in 5 races with total length of 300 sea miles. The yachts will camp in Peski yacht port of Petrozavodsk, where the opening ceremony will take place which is more convenient for the sportsmen. However, all fans of sail racing that will gather on July, 11 on the quay of Lake Onego will be able to see all participants and watch the first race. It will be held in Petrozavodsk bay of Lake Onego. Participants will cover the distance of 10 sea miles. As a tradition, the first race is held for prizes awarded by the Head of Petrozavodsk urban district.
Solemn opening is expected on July 10. The same day the exact number of the regatta participants will be announced and amendment to the program will be made. Official close of the Regatta will be held on July, 17.
The Regatta is organized by the State Committee of the RK on Physical Training and Sports, the Federation of Sailing of the Republic of Karelia, Peski base (Petrozavodsk), the Quarter Ton Fleet Association.
